Also known as Annapurna sanctuary trek, it offers you a fine opportunity to surround yourself with the Himalayan peaks in a relatively short time. It takes you from the plains of the Pokhara Valley to the south face base camp of the mighty Annapurna Mountain (7219m) and its awesome glaciers.
The trail starts from Nayapul a short drive from Pokhara and passes alongside Bhurungdi River through rice terraces and a lovely birch forest to get to the beautiful and ornate Gurung village of Ghandruk. The hike continues to Chomrong village, and then goes more uphill as the valley gets narrower and more and more snow covered peaks appear. The walk along the base of the Himalaya offers gorgeous panorama of Annapurna Himal before finally culminating at the sanctuary (4100m). The principle peaks of the western portion of the great Annapurna Himal, including Himchuli, Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna, Gangapurna, Annapurna 3 and Machhapuchhre are arranged almost precisely in a circle with a deep glacier-covered amphitheatre at the centre. The mountain scenery is simply breathtaking. We explore ABC for a day and stay there overnight. What adds to interest for this trek is on our way back we descend down via Sinuwa to the natural hot spring of Jhinudanda, where you can take a bath to relieve all the cramps you may have had during this adventure. Our plan now is to walk you down to Pothana and back to Pokhara, stopping en route at Dhampus and Austrian camp.
